OUR VINEYARD

The Domaine of Martin JUND, which has been making wine for many generations, now cultivates 7 ha. of vines situated to the north west of Colmar, "the wine capital of Alsace".
The "Harth" vineyard is one of the few that have been in production since Roman times.

The vineyard is located on the alluvial deposits of the Fecht river where the soil is light, permeable, stony and capable of warming quickly. This together with the silty, sandy base, makes it unsuitable for other crops.

We benefit from the famous Colmar micro-climate which has one of the lowest anual recorded rainfall levels in France as well as long periods of sun.

Our vines near Riquewihr are on exposed, very sunny slopes

ORGANIC AGRICULTURE

Since 1997 we have practiced organic methods of viticulture, which excludes all use of chemical based weed-killer, fertilizers and treatments.

The grapes are harvested manualy and are gently pressed, using a pneumatic press so as not to crush the pips and stalks.

The juice ferments naturally with the yeasts present on the grape's skin, chaptalisation (adding sugar to the must) is extremely rare and the use of sulphur is kept to below half of the permitted levels.
The wine is matured in the traditional manner in our cellar.
